Re: Back to their roots. New MG's
They're horrible. Just horrible. In the future, I doubt we'll reminisce about MG going "Remember the one that looked like a Nissan Primera?" I wish them no success at all. I wish they'd just take them back to China. I don't want to even look at them. That car company robbed us blind. They ...

Lou Reed 1942-2013
I just got home from work and read the terrible news that one of my heroes has died. Lou Reed was the guiding spirit of The Velvet Underground, who were the greatest ever American rock and roll band. I can still recall so vividly the first time I heard "White Light/White Heat", the Velvets...

For one licensed premises to buy alcohol from another, whether at cost, trade or retail, and to then retail it through his own premises, IS illegal. If you think about it, there wouldn't be any point in licensing, otherwise. The licensing laws aren't there to regulate how much profit publicans make...

Re: Fastest cars in your road?
I just looked at the specs of the 2012 320d and the most powerful model is 181BHP For that Parker's claim 145mph and 0-60 in 7.3 sec. That's very similar to the vitesse sport, except the BMW has around 15BHP less and weighs at least 60kg more. If your vitesse is in good health and making 200BHP you...

Nah, but seriously, I'd love to be able to afford a 320 diesel. I'd have a silver one. Do they do it in silver?

Failing you for a worn drop link seems a bit harsh. Particularly if they issued an advisory for the other drop link. Why not pass it and advise both of them? They're hardly safety critical. Same with the 3rd brake lamp. A car presented with these faults should be passed with advisories.

[quote="The Tahiti Manalishi"]Nowadays any decent family saloon is quicker than my vitesse coupe.
Hang on, though; a family saloon that can do 0-60 in 7.5 seconds and reach 147mph would be more than 'decent', I reckon. Your Vitesse is still "special", mate!

Re: Fastest cars in your road?
I think my Vitesse may have returned to the top of the league in my street. For a couple of years I was secretly really miffed at being 3rd, behind the Skyline across the road and the Vectra VXR a couple of doors down. The Skyline's gone now. The fella who had the VXR has replaced it with a brand ne...

No. Private capital allows far more investment than the government, which by definition has no money at all. Strikes can only be a result of Thatcherism? So there were no strike before she took office? Who enjoys having their holiday ruined when the BA union deliberately strikes (without even a maj...

During Mrs Thatcher's term in office, of course we had the miner's strike, but I think a lot of people might have forgotten that the Ambulance Service and the Fire Service were on strike, also. Hey, being a trade union member doesn't make you a communist, Punxy! It just levels the playing field a wee bit, when it comes to UK employment law, which most employers detest and will gladly ignore, if they're allowed to. Employers don't want workers who are efficient or productive so much as they...

Nowadays, it is absolutely essential for working people to belong to a trade union. Otherwise, they are at the complete mercy of their employer. Working class people who claim to mistrust the trade union movement have played into the hands of their masters, and are quietly betraying their brothers a...

Recently, when I was sort of toying with the idea of selling mine, I wrote out a potential ad for it. It made me realise how much money I've spent on it in the 5 years I've had it. Thousands. Another 'Top Gear' instant classic, unfortunately. Seriously, what age is Jeremy Clarkson? We've all had a great laugh at the questionable skills of elderly drivers, but in 1983. Bang on, roveboy. There's nothing sadder than a 10 year old motor with 3000 miles on it, brick-hard suspension bushes creaking and groaning, belching black smoke out of it's carbon choked engine, paint dull as dishwater.
Drive it. Wash it. Service it. Repeat.

I'm another of those poor souls who only ever owns one car, so my Vitesse is my commuter, shopper, taxi, the lot! Since 1999, I've owned only Rovers. I owned my 618Si from 99-06, the longest I've owned any motor. The 50k I put on it in that time was also the highest mileage I'd put on a car, until m...

Man Utd weren't required to beat the reigning champions in their 1967-68 run to the final. Celtic were inexplicably put out in the first round! One has to surmise, however, that had they been drawn together there would have been a reasonable chance that Celtic would have done them. Far, far better t...
