cat d is very light damage and nothing to worry about at all. most cars over 8 years old are automatically written off (your insurance) or deemed uneconomical to repair(other insurance)

just to add my bit in the golf maestro debate, you do know the maestro and montego are basicly golfs with different body shells, chassis, floor pan are from a mk1 golf, hence why the 1.3 and 1.6 used the vw gear box but 2.0 and later 1.6 monty's used the honda box. so handling between golf and maest...

dont know what ford make there ones with compared to vauxhall, but a zetec is 10 years or 100k miles and vauxhall can only manage 4 years or 40kmiles.
ive not come across a ford with a snapped belt yet, but hundreds of vauxhalls that have.
