Coupe Turbo project For Sale

Post by notroubleclubber »

With a heavy heart.....my project is up for sale.

Ive decided that id rather just have a car i dont have to mess with and im going to give up with this project. Tools have gone missing and i keep hitting brick walls in my personal life which just leaves me with no time and no enthusiam to finish this project.

Ive had help from RT members especially BRGCoupe who installed the engine for me and i am eternally grateful for the help in trying to get this project back on the road but i think it just feels right now to move this project on.

Now...to the car....

Rover 220 coupe turbo on a L plate. Turbo on the logbook. No MOT or Tax. Sorn`d. In Nightfire Red.

Running Gear:
Its got about 130k+ on the clocks but BRGcoupe installed another engine for me. The engine was said to have 90k and was bought off a member on RT. Im sure they said it had a new cambelt and Oil pump (800 one though so no oil cooler outlet though there is an oil cooler available). Ive installed the 220 coupe sump and pickup with all new core plugs, seals (and some seals ive yet to replace though i have the parts) and its been painted in a nice gold colour with some ancillaries such as water pump housing etc in silver.
Its got a new water pump, rear crank seal and core plugs.
It has a brand new service kit with it inc. oil filter, aux belt, rotor arm and dizzy cap, fuel filter etc. New spark plugs installed already (well, about 3 months old and only ran for about 20 miles). Secondhand HT Leads from Cableguy and a second pair in blue too which i believe are uprated (though king lead insulation has failed so has tape on this).
Ive never heard this engine run as it was already removed from a zr conversion when i bought it (so correct engine mounts) but it turned over fine with what felt like good compression by hand. The bottom end looked clean and i have pics of this if needed.
Gearbox was found to be a 620ti box (so better LSD?) and BRGCoupe provided me with the better correct driveshaft seals. However it was also found to have standard bearings (not steel caged). It was fitted with a new clutch kit (standard) when the engine was installed.
Engine mounts are a bit split but I was still going to use these. I was going to go for the custom engine mounts made by vibratech. I have a new rear dogbone to fit bought from rimmers new.
It has a new lambda and CTS as well swapped over from the old engine which i aquired due to problems with the old engine.
It has part samco water hoses in red and has a good secondhand radiator to fit. Standard fan setup. Newish coolant bottle fitted and heater matrix completely flushed out.
Uprated engine parts include a T28 turbo (that needs a rebuild as seized - i dropped some paint into it so this might be the prob what caused it though it was only a little and its been off the car for months so may just need a bit of oil). Large intercooler with red piping (toyosports i think).
Decat pipe for exhaust included though there is a brand new cat on the exhaust too for MOT. Nice backup though i think standard exhaust system.
New front OS lower arm fitted for MOT.
Both Hubs need reconnecting with nut to allow wheels to be put back on for towing.
Engine brace included (cant remember what make but see pics) and there is a lower rear brace fitted with bolts by previous owner.
Large windscreen washer bottle in front wing replaced with smaller universal bottle on bulkhead due to large intercooler pipework.

To be reconnected is wiring loom, ABS bracket, battery tray (repainted already) and battery (new battery bought new few months ago), ecu bracket, rear dog bone, turbo and exhaust and hub nuts. Then fluids etc. New turbo would be needed though i can supply a seized t28 or a smokey t25 to get it going. Prob some other little bits but this is most of it.

17" black wheels - see pics. All tyres good (part worn installed on one recently to pass MOT). Slight curbing but MOT tester though these were ok and suit the car.

Standard brakes all round though I have a ZS180 front setup to fit inc. discs and redstuff pads, calipers and carriers to fit along with goodridge hoses (like new) to fit all around.

Interior:
White dials with white boost gauge on a pillar.
Momo type steering wheel (horn on a button below steering wheel).
Kenwood stereo (old cd player but works). All amp wiring still in car.
Full black leather interior in good condition (very slight wear on drivers bolster) with red piping i think from FDH model.
MK1 dash though i have 2 bubble dashes complete with wiring looms needed for conversion.

Bodywork:
Rust on rear arches. Looks bad but hasnt got worse since ive owned it. I was going to grind back to metal ,rust treat and fill and spray as even though looks alot on pics i dont believe its that deep. Obviously dont know properly until you delve into it.
Rear sill (cant remember what side) was welded for MOT. I asked the MOT tester to check rest of car if welding was needed anywhere else and nothing else was found. Front (rear) subframe replaced with good secondhand part and hammerited black for extra protection as old subframe was found cracked.
Front wings both have rust (drivers worse as this rust is bubbling on top of wing - passenger side not too bad apart from around wing indicator).
New windscreen fitted by insurance for MOT.
Bonnet ok with a few scratches, front bumper a few scrapes but in original NFR (original bumper was rattle can sprayed and looked crap). Front bumper slightly modded to allow for bigger intercooler.
Bit of rust on bottom of drivers door but not too bad. Slight little dents here and there and scratches as you would expect but still looks nice when polished.
Rear spoiler has a few chips but not bad.

Good looking car and i dont really want to break though i know i would make alot more money!

Im going to keep the complete car and parts on RT and rover coupe forum for a few days to see if there is any interest in the full car otherwise it will be broke which would be a shame.

Heres some pics:

Any other pics i would be happy to take and post - however please remember this is currently on stands so cant be removed out the garage at the mo so I can only take pics as best i can due to its position!

Also there is many other pics inc. rust pics here:
http://www.rovertech.net/forum/viewtopi ... 0&t=134568

This car has been owned by a few enthusiasts so has been looked after. There is a thread on RT by a previous owner which done alot of work on this too.
All parts to complete the car are included apart from a decent turbo as the t28 i did have on it has seized. this can be rebuilt by wilky.PM him for a price.

Now for the price:
I know i could get £800+ for it in parts but i believe this could be saved by someone who has time and with a bit of effort could be a smart example of a NFR original coupe.
So for the fact I want this to be saved im willing to accept £600 for the car and all the parts i have for it. It can be put back to a rolling state very easily with half an hour work (just the hubs to be put back on with the passenger side lower arms refitted) then wheels. I dont think it will take someone long with a bit of know how to get it to a roadworthy MOTable state (just need a turbo).
I dont think it will need much if anything for an MOT as before it was taken off road, i had it MOT`d (it failed) numerous times and fixed eveything that caused the failures.

Im going to give this a few days on RT and rover coupe forum for enthusiats to have a look before i look at breaking it. If it needs to be broke then it will be to keep other coupes and turbos on the road so please dont slate me for this as i am believe i am selling this cheap complete.

It can be viewed and this can be arranged via PM on here. I can then pass on my details.

Dont come and view and expect to get it for half the price as i believe this is at a decent price for the parts alone as it is.

Also please dont troll me for doing this....i want this to go to a good home so its not going on ebay or pistonheads - its only on these sites for rover owners to see. Obviously if it doesnt sell then it may be broke but at least it will keep other rovers on the road.

BTW - dont try and change my mind as it is made up now. Ive been thinking long and hard about this for the last month and it was a hard decision but i think its for the best.

as i said, i may break but thought id give the enthusiats a chance to buy it as a whole.

By all means, if anyone is interested in parts then pm me. i will give it a few days then will start listing parts and prices if no one is interested.

That way, no one can moan im breaking a coupe turbo when ive offered it for sale as a whole for a good affordable price.

Bump for first day. If I can get a cheap turbo I may possibly keep. If not by the weekend I may break.

Due to personal circumstances I've dropped this to £550 no offers.

I've got another t25 for it now that will be included so all parts are here and included to finish it off.

If it don't sell by Monday then its gonna have to go to my dads and start being broke for parts which would be a shame.

I know you said your not changing your mind and i dont want to sound like a d1ck but if you have all the parts to put it back on the road do it.... its going to take you longer to break it then the work you have left to do to get it running again....

As above,

Although you seem to be set on breaking it already :bye:

Create a thread over on RCOC explaining what jobs need doing and what parts you have!

Good guys over there, you might just create the next 'fix it day' on the calendar.

Thanks guys.

I kind fellow off here and the coupe forum helped me with the engine which I am grateful for.

Its not that I have no incentive - its the fact that I literally have no time to finish. I also need to get the garage cleared out as the landlord is having work done to it (being made into anther room so its better of for us anyway).
There is no room at my mums and there is limited space at my dads hence the need to get the car there and break and store the parts there.

I gave a deadline for this weekend as I know I won't get nothing done and not free to sort it for a while after.

I'd love to get it back on the road but even with your other peoples help, I haven't the time to be there to help anyway.

I've offered it cheap as I want it to live on and someone to finish it - if I wanted to make money I could break it for twice as much surely.
James - I honestly don't want it broken. Its too good for that. I've spent quite a bit on it and its the ideal car to have for me as I wouldn't get bored with it. People who know me personally will know I'm an enthusiast.

Unfortunately its due to personal circumstances that it has to go.

In all honesty Mark, if you can't finish it you won't be able to break it. You saw how much effort was required to get the engine out. You will end up with an eye sore round your Dads that he will get fed up with and call the scrap man. Put the T25 on and the original intercooler refit the bumper and wheels. Sell the bubble dash and intercooler for some cash.

Just checked the diary and I gave ONE weekend free in the next six months.

Sat and sun 18th & 19th may.

So I think to try and save this I will try and organise a fix it day - if the landlord will hold off for me.
