Ever sold a vehicle and later regretted it?

Post by Bikernut »

Im sure we have all sold something we have later regretted.
Well i sure did when i sold this....(some will probably remember this thread)

http://www.rovertech.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=81044

This was 18 months ago and several bikes later....none gave the same satisfaction as this beast.
So there i was looking through autotrader last weekend....and spotted what looked like my old bike.
A quick phone call and...yes...it was my old bike.
Bought it back for a grand less than i sold it for...and still in mint condition. 8)

Oh happy days...satans back :D
An amazing coincidence to be looking at the same time he was selling.(would have paid a lot more to get it back)

Yes my second 420 turbo. It had a broken gearbox and i was in no position to fix it. 3 months later i got a new job with 50% higher pay. Not only could i have fixed it, but it would be truly awesome by now.

I regret selling a few, but my first Vitesse (sold because the garage told me fixing it would be stupidly expensive - I now know it would have taken about £80 and an afternoon in my drive with some spanners. Doh!!!) and my VVC coupe (still serving Fordimus well, I hear!) are probably the ones I miss most.

kind of, don't regret selling it at the time, it was the right choice and I try never to regret a choice in life, it's done.

Now that I've got my nice sensible calibra and a lot more disposable time and ££ I wouldn't mind still having my coupe though to go out and play in, would give me a less painful hobby than the one I've replaced cars with which while resulting in much improved health and fitness does have a phsyical pain and occasional bruised face downside lol.

I miss my coupe, I have fond memories of it, and when I now see it I sometimes wish it was still mine and I could return it to its peak... but I dont regret getting rid as such, the Accord does everything better. The coupe will always have sentimental value and I cant help wishing I could have both.

Yep,

Had a 1984 'A' reg Capri 2.0Si...what, you ask, is an Si?

My mate and I fitted a 2.0l Sierra injected lump (cossie block, much stronger), with a 2" 4-2-1 freeflow system. she produced the same BHP at the wheels, as a standard 2.0 produced at the flywheel (and used unleaded, and did nearly 40 mpg, if you were gentle...and easily 125+mph). Remember, a standard 2.8 injection only made 160 bhp, and I could eat one of those for breakfast!

We dropped her 1.5" , uprated the brakes, springs...triangulated the rear axle, strut braced the front end, did the bushes in Polyurethane, fitted 2.8i anti-roll bars, fitted central locking, de-locked the passenger door, found a proper RS steering wheel, and 6j x 13 RS alloys (4-spoke)...

She looked gorgeous, went like hot sh*t off a shovel, and made GTI owners look silly! :drive:

The bank messed up a rent payment to our landlord, and I had to sell her VERY cheap...a week after, he turned up and gave me my money back, as the rent had appeared in his account...I WAS GUTTED!

The bloke who bought her off me took her down to Le Mans for the 24 hour race, with his 2 mates who had a Porsche and a BMW M3...He said she kept up with them every inch of the way, and never missed a beat!

Some things are just sent to try you...or tripe n onions you off totally!

All the best,

Phil

I sold a number of Lambrettas for peanuts back in the day, then (when they decided we couldn't be trusted to ride anything over 125cc on L-plates) I got rid of a highly customised Triumph Tigress scooter that was a 250cc 4-stroke twin, for free to a neighbour. I sold my very nice and very quick Avenger Tiger replica for average money, because I wanted a Rover SD1 V8 i'd seen (and needed to put my 3.0 ltr Capri owning brother in his place). The new owner trashed the Avenger within two weeks :x How I cried. He lost it in the snow and stuffed it into a bank so hard it ripped off a chassis leg. Tw@t

Needless to say, I'm completely pants with money. Good job I've had business partners and a wife who aren't so stupid nor impulsive.

And I've also sold reg numbers in the past for dumb figures. Usually the first I've been offered. One was BBC 65, another 518 PG. Probably didn't make £250 added together
