Forza 3 - Car setup question - techie!!

Post by speedx »

Right guys i'm hoping with your knowledge on car setups e.t.c you maybe able to help me!!

in forza 3 theres a drag racing section.

ive tuned my car and i am now running 22.179 mile long standing start. i know this can come down to very low 21's

my final drive is now setup so i dont have to change into 6th gear just before the line.

i've upped the psi of the tyres, siffened the suspension.

ive had a tat with the diff but my skills to setting a car up for drag racing are somewhat limited lol..

any suggestions on what to change? the car is 4wd !!

The best gains on a drag setup will be in your gear ratios have a play with them and check 0-60 0-100 and top speed figures, We have had a Btcc championship on themgzs and id fiddled with the gears on my leon and cars that I was struggling to keep up with on the straights eariler in the comp I just pulled away from!

Yeahm when you have big power, you want few gearchanges, just for a laugh, try and gear it so you only use 1-4 gears. I remember that used to give really good times on the old forza.

im on the right track then! ive got a 6gear skyline box in it at the minute, but have push it so it only uses 5 and the cars hittin 227mph on the mile.

cheers for your input!!

have you got a power plot?

what you want to do is plot the power points with the gear ratios, and such work out th eoptimum point to change gear, its not always at the redline.

i did this excercise on my 820 turbo, using my power plot (which was torquey then dropped off after 4500rpm a fair bit), and in 4th gear, readline was not the optimum shift point, it was about 300 rpm earlier..

i know in the real world, drag guys lower the psi of their tyres sometimes- give a bigger footprint, and therefore more grip off the line

good for shorter distances, less effective for a standing mile though I imagine where you want tyre resistance to be as low as possible to allow for more speed.

That said, only ever did a standing anything over 400m at TOTb adn it wasn't timed, I did run that with over inflated tyres ratehr than underinflated like I did on the 1/4 mile, got 4th in top speed fwd that year, way off pace in the 1/4, maybe should have left the pressures up for the 1/4 lol.
