Old member, new (to me) car

Post by al_leeds »

Don't think I have been this way in years, but I'm back in Rover ownership so thought I would swing by and say hello.

My normal daily driver these days is this:

2011 XFR - 5.0 V8, 510 horses, just back from a new engine under warranty (timing chain skipped). Pre engine disaster it was dyno'd at 593 BHP thanks to a set of back boxes and air filters.

A change in jobs meant a winter snotter was a good idea so started having a look on ebay to see what was available. Ideally wanted an old civic or a Rover. 416 GTi would have been perfect but none available but an ad for a 26k mile 216 Sli caught my eye. 2 owner "survivor" car with documented 26k miles, stack of service stamps and an average of about 300 miles done over the last 5 or so year. But the bodywork is a lot more ropey as it looks and the interior is filthy. The drivers side rear door is dented very badly, the paint is very badly faded and has laquer peel and the drivers side door card needs replacing. Perhaps more work than I want to do but it is a 21 year old car. But mechanically it is as mint as you would expect.

Plans are to tidy it up without throwing big money at it, perhaps a set of colour coded coupe bumpers and enjoy it as a city car.

It's the 8th SOHC or DOHC Honda engined Rover i've owned so its safe to say I am a fan!

Nice choice. Rear door is on offer at Rimmers for about £60. Would obviously need painting. Strip out the boot and rear trim panels and pour some rust killer/protection in there, then enjoy. Nice little runaround that you won't be too fussed about if it gets a few shopping trolley dings.

My parents had L549RVV many years ago in the slightly blue silver they did.
